The 16-year-old daughter of billionaire Stewart Butterfield, co-founder of Slack, has gone missing and is believed to be in one of San Francisco’s most dangerous neighborhoods.
Mint Butterfield was last seen on Sunday night in Bolinas, California, and reported missing the next day by her mother, Caterina Fake, founder of Flickr. They were residing together and Mint was attending a private boarding school in the Napa area.
Described as 5-foot-tall with curly brown-red hair and pierced eyebrows, Mint was reportedly wearing a black sweatshirt, flannel pajama pants, and black boots, possibly carrying a gray suitcase at the time of her disappearance.
Authorities suspect that Mint may have gone to the Tenderloin district, known for its high crime rates and drug activity, given her history of substance abuse and familiarity with the area.
While there is concern for her safety due to the district's dangers, police have not determined if she went there voluntarily or if foul play is involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
Stewart Butterfield, known for co-founding Slack, and Caterina Fake, a tech entrepreneur and investor, have been involved in the tech industry for years. Mint's disappearance has prompted widespread concern, given her family's prominence and the circumstances surrounding her absence.
